Job Summary

The FPGA DO-254 Design Engineer will be responsible for FGPA design and simulation and supporting the certification process, including developing the verification environment, helping to develop test plans and requirements, and verifying the function of the FPGA on new SDI system products for commercial aviation and military and aerospace programs.  The FPGA Engineer will be a member of the Systems Electrical Engineering group reporting to the Staff Systems Electrical Engineer Manager . This is an exempt role and is located in our Concord,CA. office.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Design FPGA VHDL for family of commercial aviation products
  • Generate Hardware Requirements for FPGA from System Requirements
  • Analyze and evaluate FPGA firmware system designs
  • Implement digital filtering, digital signal processing algorithms, calibration algorithms, and navigation algorithms into FPGA design
  • Work closely with outside the contractor verification team, the test engineering group, the systems engineering group, and PCB digital and analog designers
  • Support the development of the FPGA verification flow and methodology
  • Ensure compliance with DO-254 and FAA regulations
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned

Experience: 

  • 5+ years of FPGA design experience with a proven track record of successfully verifying and delivering complex FPGA designs
  • Experience developing under a DO-254 FAA certification environment
  • General knowledge of current FPGA technologies and major suppliers such as Xilinx, Altera, MicroSemi and Atmel
  • Possess a full understanding of design using VHDL or Verilog (prefer VHDL)
  • Experience in configuration management using TFS, SVN or equivalent
  • Experience in using network analyzers, oscilloscopes and similar hardware integration tools
  • Experience working in a requirements driven design process
  • Experience in the following areas of Design Verification:
  • Test bench design and implementation
  • Test plan definition
  • Constrained random test development
  • Coverage specification and analysis
  • Reference model design and implementation
  • Automation of the regression test suite  

Required Skills:

  • Outstanding communications skills and the ability to convey complex ideas
  • Proven expert in VHDL
  • Proven expert in FPGA system integration
  • Works to and supports schedules and metrics

Preferred:

  • Experience with Inertial Sensors or sensor modeling
  • Experience with using Matlab or similar tool for analysis and testing of code
  • Experience with auto-code generation using Matlab
  • Experience with Doxygen, Spyglass or automatic software analysis tool
  • Experience with SystemVerilog, or equivalent object oriented verification environment

Education: 

BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science; Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
